The Silver Spoon, a sequel to The White Monkey, is the second volume of A Modern Comedy, which forms part of the larger cycle known as The Forsyte Chronicles. By 1924, it had already become quite clear to everyone that Britain had changed profoundly. It was no longer the same kind, old, pre-war England. Something irreversible had occurred in the social behaviour of the masses and in the moral fabric of the entire country. Michael Mont has become a Member of Parliament and is attempting to put the ideas of Foggartism into practice.
