In a fishing village in Norland, beneath the long, bright nights of the northern summer, Alexander, a poor young Romani man, enters the service of a wealthy fisherman, Jens Ula. The love that blossoms between him and his employer’s daughter, Leonarda, comes up against social differences, family control, and the girl’s own choice. Unfolding along the banks of the Glimma, the story reveals the dark consequences of deception, jealousy, and desire without passing unequivocal judgment on its characters.
