In the rural Armenian world of the 19th century, Sona’s life is shaped by poverty, family strictness, and superstition. The seizures she has suffered since childhood arouse fear and suspicion among those around her, and after her marriage she finds herself under the authority of a strange and merciless household. Through the characters of Shushan, Murad, Zarnishan, and Mad Daniel, the drama reveals a woman’s vulnerability, the lack of human compassion, and the way fear can breed cruelty.
