In the early twentieth century, during the First World War, Father Anoprios lives in Etchmiadzin and closely follows reports from the front. Fond of patriotic speeches, he calls war a sacred duty and urges others to make sacrifices while remaining safely removed from danger himself. Yet the conflict’s economic consequences begin to disturb his comfortable existence. The narrative examines the tension between public convictions, private fear, and concern for personal wealth.
