In the early twentieth century, in a major Caucasian city within the Russian Empire, the young physician Artashes returns to his family after completing his studies. His new convictions clash with the national ideals of his father, Senekerim, and his mother’s hopes for her son’s secure future. Against a background of family discord, social struggle, and political persecution, Flora’s feelings emerge. The work explores generational conflict, devotion to ideas, and the cost of personal choice.
